The DevBlog is Moving

I'm going to be moving the Outcast Hero Development Blog posts to my Tumblr account. Blogspot has never been that much of a joy to work with (awkward formatting, awkward linking of images and videos etc. ) and their recent 'upgrade' to the interface has made it even less so.

The older posts will stay archived here on Blogspot.

See you around!

Project Shooting Star

I’ve put Outcast Hero on the shelf again and started working on an animated short working titled "Project Shooting Star", set in the OH universe. And here are the reasons why.

I need to make a complete animation. Just to remind myself I can. I have nothing against long-term projects - in fact, there’s an exciting challenge in the sheer scale of them. But there is a draining aspect to working on something that won’t be complete for quite a few years. So making Project Shooting Star is mainly an act of self-encouragement for me, and if other people enjoy it too, that’ll be awesome!

Bar some slight exaggerations in comedy, the short works excellently as a prelude to the rest of the movie’s storyline. If completed, it’ll be a good plug for the entire project to those who know little to nothing of it yet. Project Shooting Star has also acted as a platform to refine general OHverse history and important character concepts. The current example of this is getting down the finer points of Muxlowe’s abilities. While I wasn’t intending to use the project in this fashion, these new developments have been both encouraging and exciting. :D

I am working on completing the short by October, in order to have it ready for submitting to this year's Bang! Short Film Festival.

The current state of the movie's voice cast.

While some of the characters were assigned voices quite early on, I have deliberately held back on finding new VAs or contacting existing ones to see if they will be able to reprise their roles with additional or revised lines. I want to make sure the script is as stable as possible before I do so.

And here it is, folks. The proof that the drafting has continued.

I'll admit its been a slightly rocky start, but I expected this, considering I haven't touched the movie in almost two months now. So I've keyframed the rest of the segment, and will be moving on to collecting those important animation references next.

Tis gonna be crazy-fun. Emphasis on the 'crazy'. XD

Indie Animation Production Advice Vid

This video is more or less indirectly linked to Outcast Hero, as I am using it as a starting point for explaining tools and techniques involved in creating the movie, for other people to get ideas from for their own projects.

This strapping fellow is Turis Daemyn -aka- Muxlowe's father. It wasn't until recently that I got an idea of exactly how I wanted him to look. It was always set in the back of my mind he was going to have a hero vibe to him -a sort of role model for Mux- and a little ironic considering Muxlowe's appearance as the protagonist is not exactly what most would consider heroic.

That being said, the moment of resuming work on the movie approaches. In the meantime, I have been constructing a video detailing the process I've been using to make Outcast Hero, in case it might inspire others in some way.
